Big Girl Bike
Melanie has been playing with her friends on the street every chance she can get since the weather started to get nicer. They play in every way imaginable, from Hockey to dolls to bouncing on the neighbor’s trampoline. But probably more than anything else, they ride their bikes around the block and in the alley behind our house. Melanie has been riding her tricycle alot and has been getting very good at it too! But she’s slow…
“I have to practice so I can catch up to my friends Daddy!!”
All of the other kids have “Big Kid Bikes” (with training wheels) instead of tricycles. So while Melanie is furiously pumping away at 90 RPM (the next Lance Armstrong??), the other kids are leisurely riding along, AND leaving her in their dust! Mechanical advantage has never been so obvious.
Well, no more… Melanie got her very own (and very pink) Big Girl Bike on the weekend! She’s still learning how to ride it (no more pedalling backwards because of the coaster brake), but she is already so much faster that she’ll be keeping up to her friends in no time. This bike is much more stable and safer than her $10 garage sale tricycle too! While it is an old-school Radio Flyer, it’s also well past its prime!
This album also has a few pictures of a hike we went on at Fish Creek Park on the same day…
