Vacation in Jamaica — Day 5

Jamaica Day 5

We had been waiting all week for a good day to go over to the neighboring Beaches resort (Beaches Negril) so that we could take the kids to the waterpark.  We had been diving every morning and it had rained most afternoons, so we had been putting it off.  We finally decided to go on this afternoon regardless of the weather, and it turned out to be hot and sunny!  In hindsight that was a mistake because it was really hot, and there was no shade, so a cloudy/rainy day might have been better.  But of course we had fun anyway.

Although we had wanted to scope out the other resort anyway, the main reason for going was because Negril had waterslides, a lazy river (basically a long circular channel with jets along the sides that keep you floating in an endless circle), and wider variety of restaurants than at Sandy Bay. We had vague plans to think about considering eating dinner at Negril, but did not end up doing so.

Negril is much larger than Sandy Bay, and while that means more variety, it also means a lot more people.  As a result lounge chairs were at a premium, and shade was nonexistant.  It also turned out that Melanie was too small for the waterslides (they don’t allow kids to ride with an adult), so we spent a long time at the lazy river and Melanie also really enjoyed playing in the water fountain.

We had a lot of fun on our excursion, but we quickly realized that we really enjoyed the small size and slower pace of Sandy Bay!
