Vacation in Jamaica — Day 7
Our last day of diving was very nice. In fact the early dive was one of the best dives we did all week. After Louise had aborted a previous dive she had spent some time on the boat talking with Damian (one of the divemasters) about his favorite dives… She was even able to convince him to take us to one of his favorite dive sites. It was called the Throne Room, named after a large crack in the reef that opened into a small cavern below.
There was plenty of room to enter the cavern through the crack, and then leave through the wall on the other side of the reef. The cavern itself was pretty much empty (except of course for sand kicked up by one my favorite divers), but it was still fun to pass through it. After leaving the cavern the dive got better in a hurry! The reef itself was very alive and very beautiful, and was enjoyable on its own. However we also got to see two turtles, a couple rays, some eels, and lots of lobsters. There was one group of 11 lobsters all huddled together under a small ledge in the reef. I’ve never seen so many so close together (except at the grocery store!).
The second dive was nothing to write home about, except that it was our last dive of the week and my 100th dive overall! I took along a disposable underwater camera to take a few pictures. Although they really didn’t turn out all that well, they have some nice memories and so I’ve included them here as a separate album.
The afternoon was hot and beautiful and we spent the whole afternoon on the beach with the kids. Everyone got to play in the sand and the surf and enjoy the sights and sounds of the beach. It was a great end to a wonderful week!
