Boys Camping Weekend in Banff

Boys weekend. The girls went to Guide camp in Banff so Andrew and I were on our own. It was the first time that we’ve gone camping with just the two of us, and it was Pepper’s first camping trip too. We actually ended up in the same campground as the girls, but Andrew didn’t know it and we never saw them. There are really very few choices in the mountain parks for campgrounds that are open so early in the year. It was fine though and we treated it as a tourist weekend.

We saw the sunset at Vermillion lakes on Friday night and then had an epic day on Saturday that included the Upper Banff Hot Springs, hiking around Johnson Lake, canoeing on the river into the 1st Vermillion Lake, wading in the glacial waters a couple of times, and many elk, deer, and Bighorn Sheep sightings. We ended the day with a campfire and Andrew put himself to bed at 8 PM.

It was raining on Sunday morning when we woke up so we packed up and headed for home. We took the very long route home though and did a lot more sightseeing and went hunting for more beautiful scenery and big game. It was a fantastic way to end a great trip. Here are some of the pictures from the weekend…
