Melanie’s Bike

Melanie's Bike

This one comes from the “Dreaming of Happier Times” file.  After a long spell of beautiful spring weather, the reality of life in Calgary came crashing back home when it started snowing yesterday morning, and really hasn’t stopped since!

So here’s an album from last week when we went to the dog park.  Fergus got a good romp and Melanie really enjoyed her bike ride.  Melanie is sporting her brand new helmet in these pictures.  It took some very fast talking to convince her that we should get the black helmet with flames on the side (because they make her look fast!) instead of the pink one.  Of course the real reason is so that we can pass it down to Andrew eventually, but she was convinced about the fast thing anyway and she tells everyone she meets while she’s wearing it!

Andrew’s First Haircut

Haircut

Although his hair was not all that long, it was definitely getting a little rough around the edges. And I was going to get a haircut for myself, so we figured it was time to get Andrew’s done too. Fortunately we only have to go next door since our neighbour is a hairdresser and has a salon in her house!

Go Flames Go

Because we’re in the playoffs Andrew decided that he should support the team and go with a Frohawk just like all the players…

Signs of Spring

Signs of Spring

We went for a hike at Nose Hill Park in search of one of the traditional signs of spring in Calgary: the Prairie Crocus in bloom.  Although it started out as a beautiful sunny day, we also encountered rain, snow, and wind during our hike.  These are also traditional signs of spring in Calgary as the weather not only changes from hour to hour, but also depending on where you are in the city.  In fact sometimes it changes depending on where you are in your neighbourhood.  Or in our case it may just depend on whether you are at the top or the bottom of Nose Hill Park…

We did manage to find lots of Prairie Crocii while at the park, so I’m convinced that spring is finally on its way!

Easter

Easter

We spent Easter in Winfield at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. We weren’t really sure if the Easter Bunny would be able to find us there? Not only were we found, but the Easter Bunny left a little challenge for Melanie. She had to follow a series of clues to find her Easter treats!

Easter Egg Hunt

We also got to take part in the Easter festivities at the local park. A magician performed for the surprisingly large crowd (almost 600 kids!), followed by an Easter Egg Hunt! The magician was quite good and Melanie really wanted to climb inside the big balloon with him, but she was a little bit too shy to go up… she had a great tiem on the Easter Egg hunt and was happy to get more treats!

Visiting Great-Grandma

Hospital

On a recent trip to Kelowna we made a couple of visits with Great-Grandma Phillips at the Hospital. For a variety of reasons she has spent a lot of time at the hospital over the last couple of years. This time it was because of her longstanding lung issues (take your choice of pneumonia, pleurisy, COPD, and probably several others). I’m always a bit sad to see her because she really is showing her age these days, but we had a couple of really nice visits and she actually looked very good while we were there. She has since recovered and is now back at her apartment…

Hanging Out

After visiting her on this particular day we went back to Grandma and Grandpa’s house (in Winfield, which is in the middle of nowhere) and hung out for the rest of the day. Melanie even got to have storytime with Grandpa Phillips before bed!
