We had another beautiful day in Calgary, and those have been very few and far between lately. What a year! It was a nasty summer, followed by a beautiful fall. But the winter has started out very cold and very snowy! So we've really been concentrating on taking advantage of the nice days when we get them. On this day we went for a walk through the winter wonderland at Carburn Park. There was a light coating of fresh fluffy snow all over everything yet it was also crisp and sunny out. Another family hiking trip, this time to Chester Lake in Kananaskis. We did an approximately 10 km round trip, including 320m of elevation gain. Andrew walked all the way up to the lake, but got a ride (and a nap) in the backpack for part of the way back down. We went for a walk at Carburn Park to look for Chickadees. There are lots of these inquisitive little birds in the park and they are always happy to stop in to say hello when we go for a visit.

We went back to the gas station to buy breakfast and then headed back down the road to Hayden Valley. The scenic landscape in the valley had been so beautiful the day before, and it was so exciting to see the … Continue Reading ››

Every time it came up we ended up deciding that it was a little bit too far away and too ambitious a trip. But when we had some unplanned vacation time to use up this summer, and when Louise kept telling me that she wanted to do more camping this year, the conversations kept returning to Yellowstone. We finally decided to just do it. Uncharacteristically for us, we made the decision little more than a week in advance, … Continue Reading ››
