Here's another one from earlier this year. Way back in the spring I bundled the kids into the car and took them for a drive out to West Bragg Creek and Kananaskis. We ended up at Elbow Falls and went for a nice hike and had a picnic lunch there. Elbow Falls is a very beautiful spot, but it's rather underwhelming as there really isn't very much to do there. The trip as a whole was great though and we all had a good time hanging out together.
We went camping on the Labor Day long weekend with Sean's Parents and also Sean's sister Heidi and her family. Although it rained on and off all weekend we had a great trip and it was fun to hang out with the family. We camped at a rustic campsite near the Icefields Parkway called Wabasso. We did lots of chillaxing around camp, but we also did a few field trips to see some of the sights and sounds of Jasper. Highlights included seeing Athabasca Falls, hiking at Mount Edith Cavell and the Valley of the Five Lakes. As you might image I took a few pictures over the weekend … Continue Reading ››
This post is not as long as the other ones about our trip to Yellowstone, but it is longer than most. Feel free to jump straight to the bottom to see the photos. This is another really long post, so feel free to jump straight to the bottom to see the photos. But don't forget to come back later to read the story! For our second day in Yellowstone we decided to get up early and hit the highway right away instead of cooking breakfast at the campsite. There is a gas station adjacent to the Canyon campground so we went there for fuel: gas, coffee, tea, milk, and cinnamon buns. We wanted to be on the road in the early hours of the morning in order to have the best chance at seeing big game (and of course for … Continue Reading ››

Every time it came up we ended up deciding that it was a little bit too far away and too ambitious a trip. But when we had some unplanned vacation time to use up this summer, and when Louise kept telling me that she wanted to do more camping this year, the conversations kept returning to Yellowstone. We finally decided to just do it. Uncharacteristically for us, we made the decision little more than a week in advance, … Continue Reading ››
