Camping at Glacier National Park

We took a family vacation to Glacier National Park in Montana last weekend. The park is incredibly beautiful and we had some really stunning views and some nice hikes. It's a really windy place though and we would have enjoyed a little bit nicer weather. The kids had great fun and it was really nice to get away! I had lots of fun doing some landscape and nature photography. It's been a long time since I've taken the time to do it and it felt really good. I was actually pretty rusty though … Continue Reading ››

Yellowstone Vacation — In the Woods

On our last morning in Yellowstone I finally got around to making some images in the woods near our campsite. There was a fallen tree right beside our campsite and the kids were constantly wanting to play on it. It seemed like the perfect place to make a family portrait. One of my favorite things to see in the park was the wide open space between the trees in the forests and the short, bright green grass growing between. Sadly my pictures really don't do it justice, so you'll have to take my word for how beautiful it was. After taking this picture we finished packing up … Continue Reading ››

Yellowstone Vacation — Junior Ranger

This post is not as long as the other ones about our trip to Yellowstone, but it is longer than most. Feel free to jump straight to the bottom to see the photos. But don’t forget to come back later to read the story! On our third full day in Yellowstone we again decided to get up early and hit the highway instead of cooking breakfast. We went back to the gas station to buy breakfast and then headed back down the road to Hayden Valley. The scenic landscape in the valley had been so beautiful the day before, and it was so exciting to see the … Continue Reading ››

Yellowstone Vacation — Hayden Valley and Old Faithful

This is another really long post, so feel free to jump straight to the bottom to see the photos. But don't forget to come back later to read the story! For our second day in Yellowstone we decided to get up early and hit the highway right away instead of cooking breakfast at the campsite. There is a gas station adjacent to the Canyon campground so we went there for fuel: gas, coffee, tea, milk, and cinnamon buns. We wanted to be on the road in the early hours of the morning in order to have the best chance at seeing big game (and of course for … Continue Reading ››

Yellowstone Vacation — Calgary to Yellowstone

I've wanted to visit Yellowstone National Park for years (as long as I can remember really) and Louise and I have often talked about going there. Every time it came up we ended up deciding that it was a little bit too far away and too ambitious a trip. But when we had some unplanned vacation time to use up this summer, and when Louise kept telling me that she wanted to do more camping this year, the conversations kept returning to Yellowstone. We finally decided to just do it. Uncharacteristically for us, we made the decision little more than a week in advance, … Continue Reading ››
