Hiking the Heart Creek Trail in Winter

We went for a winter hike along the Heart Creek Trail near Canmore with some friends. It was a pretty winter day and the hike was great. The hike is not long and we easily made it to the end of the trail at the top of the valley. Although there is a waterfall at the top, it is not accessible and we couldn't see it. It seems like it might be possible to get to it later in the winter if the whole creek freezes. We might have to go back after a major cold snap to have a better look...

Hiking the Heart Creek Trail near Canmore

We went for a nice walk along the Heart Creek Trail on Thanksgiving weekend. Louise's mom and Sister were in town (with little Baby Zoe) and we all needed to get out of the house. A trip out to the mountains was definitely in order. It is a very pretty hike and it was a beautiful fall day!

Simply Sunday: Nose Hill Park

I borrowed a lens from Canon for the weekend because I wanted to test it out (* more about that at the end for those of you that care) and so I decided to make a stop at Nose Hill Park in Calgary today with the kids. I've been working some really crazy hours lately trying to get caught up on all of the projects I've got going and it was really nice to actually have some time to take a break! The weather was pretty perfect for photography. It was a little bit sunny and a … Continue Reading ››

Camping at Waterton – Day 1

We went camping at Waterton Lakes National Park for the Canada Day long weekend. We had never been there before but we went with Rich and Patti (and Keiran and Brenna) who had, and so we had some help figuring out where to go. They suggested a very nice campground and they had a list of kid friendly hikes that we could all do. Although the park is in the Rockies, the terrain is surprisingly different than we see in the Mountain Parks closer to Calgary. The wildflowers were in full bloom for our visit and so it was a great time of year to be there! The one … Continue Reading ››

Pelican on the Bow River

We had our first Pelican sighting of the year today. These American White Pelicans arrive in Calgary in late April, hang out on the Bow River all summer, and then take off to Florida before it gets too cold... Sounds like a good plan to me! It was a pretty ugly day today with plenty of snow and rain, but we both had the day off and took advantage of it anyway. We went for a really nice walk along the river and saw plenty of birds including ducks, geese, and a Hawk soaring high above.
